Are you an Eco Gardener or a Plastic Consumer?

Like it or not, our actions have direct consequences on the environment, both locally and globally. We all need to become more environmentally aware eco gardeners and reduce the amount of plastic we consume.

Take a look in your indoor and outdoor garden, how many plastic pots are you using?

These days, we are encouraged to become eco gardeners,  going plastic-free wherever and whenever we can.
Although we have found that many gardening accessories such as, tools, flower pots, and planters that are mass-produced for gardeners come either wrapped in plastic or made entirely from it!

It’s not just pots and seed trays but also tools, garden trugs, wheelbarrows, bags, labels and compost.

We looked in our own small suburban garden in Manchester and were very shocked at the huge piles of plastic plant pots and seed trays that we had accumulated over the years.

Reduce, Reuse, RecycleWe made a pledge right then that we would try to become eco gardeners and make a conscious effort to reduce our plastic consumption around the home, adopting the #Reduce #Reuse #Recycle mantra and repurposed plastic pots and containers wherever we could, but…

 it wasn’t enough!

So called eco friendly products from other suppliers

We tried purchasing eco-friendly gardening items advertised by a few well-known brands but were devastated to discover that these so-called “eco-friendly products” arrived in plastic packaging or contained plastic in one form or another!

That was it, enough was enough, we had to take action to encourage change within the gardening industry and the perfect way to do that was to lead by example!

e-pots have achieved a small degree of change through educating gardeners about the environmental damage plastic plant pots and gardening accessories have on the climate.

Many UK gardeners and growers have already made the switch to plastic-free gardening and even our competitors have begun emulating our environmental ethos and plastic-free approach and the world is a much better place for it!
We encourage everyone to become more of an eco gardener and make the switch to plastic free gardening products.

The World is obsessed with plastic!

Cheap mass-produced plastic is still preferred by suppliers more than traditional crafts and values due to limiting production costs and speed of manufacture.

Every year it is estimated that up to 8 Million Tons of plastic waste pollute the oceans and 80% of it ends up as marine debris.

Artificially created debris litters our countryside. Even our food sources are becoming contaminated by microplastics.

We are literally drowning in plastic waste.

We need an alternative, eco-friendly sustainable solutions. If we are to ease our dependency on fossil fuel derivatives, we all need to do our bit!

Luckily we are not alone in being anti-plastic!

2018 saw the start of a global movement to reduce the amount of single use plastic used around the world, with Global corporations beginning to remove plastic from their inventories, multinational companies started investing in greener solutions for transport and entire Countries pledged to embrace environmentally friendly solutions to combat global warming.

However, green solutions to plastic have been slow to hit the market, often due to ridiculously high manufacturing and shipping costs.

Government’s across the planet promise environmental action, but fail to deliver within agreed timescales and our wonderful world continues to suffer!

e-Pots Environmental Aim

To provide gardeners with a wide range of high-quality, sustainable, products and materials to help them to reduce plastic use in the garden.

Our product line started with a fun easy to use tool the e-pots Classic Paper Pot Maker for seed propagation, through developing seedlings, cuttings and even plug plants.

Then we introduced biodegradable paper plant pots made from recycled paper pulp and will break down into organic matter when planted in soil with the added benefit that your plants will grow stronger because their roots do not get disturbed.

Products also include peat-free alternatives for potting compost and plant starter pellets to give your young seedlings a great start to life, without impacting the environment. Our Coco Coir solutions are made from a food industry waste product – Coconut husks & fibers!

Each of our gift sets are carefully produced and hand-packed in the UK, made possible by collaboration with other small businesses who share our ethical approach.

Plus we have more exciting and innovative products in development and each will be thoroughly tested before we allow our name to be put on them.

Even our packaging is totally plastic-free!

We hate single-use packaging and we provide our products in sturdy boxes made from 100% recycled materials and our product labels are printed on recycled paper using water-based inks.
